Role: Volunteer Tutor
Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Tutors will work with middle or high school students in one-hour sessions, primarily helping with homework assignments, skill-building exercises, and navigating learning platforms. Duties include:
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to assist with homework and academic coursework.
- Guide students through problem-solving and demonstrate how to find reliable answers and learn new concepts when tackling unfamiliar material.
- Encourage critical thinking, patience, and positive study habits.
Days and Times Needed: Monday - Friday from 4:30pm - 6:30pm (one hour increments)
Volunteers are needed for only one hour per week but can work more if they choose to do so.
All volunteer opportunities are needed starting at the end of September, but the onboarding of new volunteers will continue for the entire 2026-2027 school year.
Special skills or requirements:
- Patience, dedication, and a growth-oriented mindset are essential.
- Ability to look up concepts, learn on the fly, and teach students effective research and learning strategies.
- Knowledge in specific academic subjects is helpful, but strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to help students navigate challenges are most important.
- Prior tutoring/teaching experience or behavior management skills are a plus, but not required.
Minimum Commitment: StreetSquash values long term, consistent volunteer relationships. We accept volunteers on a rolling basis from September 21st-May 30th. We ask that if you complete this form you are able to volunteer 1 hour per week on average and can commit at least 6 hours of volunteering total. We understand that there will be times where you can commit more or less to the above expectation and will do our best to create a schedule that works for you and supports our students in reaching their goals!
Minimum Age: All volunteers must be at least 15 years of age at the start of their first volunteer shift
