Help Kids Read Through Saturday Tutoring

About this Opportunity

Help us boost literacy and share a love for reading with kids!

At Uptown Literacy, we believe in providing holistic literacy for the entire family, and this is all made possible with the help of wonderful volunteers like you! Here is a brief rundown of what you can expect when you serve at our Saturday Literacy Program:

  • Saturday programming 11 am - 1 pm at a community center in West Harlem. Our volunteer tutors typically arrive around 10-15 minutes before the program starts.
  • Placement with 1-3 of our Pre-K to 3rd-grade Saturday scholars. You will work face-to-face with our students, build meaningful rapport, and work through our expert-curated "Jolly Phonics" curriculum.
  • All tutoring & educational materials will be provided, so pack light and come ready to jump in and give it your all!
  • A high-energy, learner-centered environment full of fun, bright, eager scholars who are excited to learn and engage in creative ways.
  • At lunch time, there will be a time for fellowship with the teacher and students as they eat lunch.

While weekly or bi-weekly commitments are helpful, volunteers may also drop-in come whenever they can. Groups up to five may serve together, just reach out first to ensure your date is available. Together, we can light up minds, hears, and futures through literacy. Request information below to get in touch with our team!
